Khairy To Sue Rafizi For Spreading "Fake News" On Nomination Day Disqualification
The PKR vice-president has alleged that the BN Youth chairman was involved in the EC's disqualification of Dr S Streram.
BN Youth chairman Khairy Jamaluddin has revealed his intentions to take PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli to court over allegations that he was involved in the Election Commission's (EC) decision to disqualify Dr S Streram on nomination day, 28 April
According to Bernama, Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Mohamad Hasan won the Rantau state seat uncontested after Streram was barred from entering the nomination centre to file his papers as he was without the candidate's pass required by the EC.
Rafizi Ramli took to his Twitter account to make his views on the controversy known.
Khairy, who is the BN candidate for the Rembau parliamentary seat, said that this particular comment is more serious than the other remarks Rafizi has said about him in the past as it involves the integrity of GE14
"I will take action against Rafizi. This is a serious matter as I am an election candidate. This is about the credibility of the election in Rembau, and I'm going to drag him to court," he told reporters on Saturday, 28 April.
Khairy called Rafizi's spread of the accusation via his social media accounts "baseless", and thus an offence under the Anti-Fake News Act 2018
"I want him to be brought to justice because he has many defamation cases, the latest being the (Dr Streram) case in Rantau. Let the courts decide," he said.
"If Rafizi does not retract the defamatory remarks he made against me, then I will file a defamation suit against him," he said.
According to BN Youth chief, Rafizi also stirred racial sentiments among Indian voters by inciting them to "punish" BN for Dr Streram's disqualification
"This is an extremely irresponsible act...playing with racial sentiments. PKR is said to be a multiracial party but yesterday Rafizi proved that he was a politician willing to bank on racial sentiments," said Khairy, according to Bernama.
He added that, "I hope that the Indians will not easily fall for this racial game by PKR but will continue to support me and other BN candidates in the state and the Rembau parliamentary constituency for my service to the constituents."
