A woman recently sparked controversy after a video of her calling Malay people lazy went viral on social media

In the aftermath, she faced online criticism and has since released an apology video, believed to be directed at Tunku Makhota Johor (TMJ) Tunku Ismail Ibrahim, reported Berita Harian.

In the one-minute clip, the woman expressed her feelings of sadness and extended gratitude to TMJ for allowing her to reside and conduct business in Johor.

"Forgive me, Your Highness, a thousand pardons, I pray to be forgiven. I am proud to be a citizen of the state of Johor, I am too sad, thank you, Your Highness. I am proud to be a citizen of the state of Johor and to be able to do business in the state. I want to help more people, Your Highness, thank you very much," she said in the video.

The apology comes after one of Tunku Ismail's followers on X urged him to take action against the woman, whom they referred to as 'Mak Cik Kemboja'

However, on Monday, 20 November, Tunku Ismail brushed the matter aside, saying politicians have also criticised Malay leaders and called Malays lazy before, and nobody has asked him to take action in those instances.

In the initial viral video, the woman identified herself as of Cambodian origin, but emphasised that she was raised in Malaysia

She also claimed that Cambodians are smarter and more diligent in business compared to Malays, whom she described as lazy. However, she clarified at the end of the video that it was meant in jest.

However, due to the backlash, the woman became more cautious and went on to apologise multiple times for the joke in subsequent posts.
