This projection does not take into consideration factors such as natural disasters or epidemics which can significantly affect death estimates. The estimates used are assumed to be constant for a period of three months (every quarter) before the estimates are updated. The population increase may be subjected to small discrepancies caused by rounding.

Based on The Star Online's monitoring of the population clock, approximately one birth rate occurs every minute, which means the 30 million figure will be reached at approximately 2am on Thursday.

According to the Statistics Department, Malaysia’s population has more than tripled since it was formed in 1963.
Back in 1957 when Tunku Abdul Rahman shouted “Merdeka” seven times in the newly-built Stadium Merdeka on August 31, there were only 6.3 million Malayans.

A rough calculation based on the projected growth rate of an average of 1 per cent, the Malaysian population will at most be 65 million in 2100. By 2040, the Statistics Department projects that the number of Malays will increase to 20.9 million (54 per cent of overall population), followed by other Bumiputras, 5.2 million (14 per cent) and the Chinese, 7.1 million (18 per cent).
