Malaysia has spent more than RM33 million on the search and rescue operations for both MH17 and MH370

Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai Said that the government has allocated RM33,461,861.50 for the search and rescue operation costs for the two Malaysia Airlines tragedies

Flight MH370 disappeared without a trace on 8 March 2014. Led by Australia, the search operations is the most expensive aviation investigation so far.

Five months later on 17 July 2014, flight MH17 was shot down from the sky in Donetsk, Ukraine. Investigations and recovery efforts have been hampered by the civil war but are still ongoing.

Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur crashed in Ukraine, near the Russian border, at about 10.30pm on 17 July 2014.
