Malaysian School Wins World Marching Band Competition With Bruce Lee-Inspired Performance
The school beat eight other teams to emerge as champions in the prestigious competition.
A Kedah school has made the nation proud by winning the Sudler Shield Award at the 2016 World Championship of Marching Show Band (WCMSB)
Sekolah Menengah Jenis Kebangsaan (SMJK) Keat Hwa won the prestigious marching band competition held from 3 to 6 August, 2016 at the Kuala Lumpur Hockey Stadium.
The school from Alor Setar emerged as the overall champion after beating eight other teams and winning several other categories.
The award was presented by Professor W Dale Warren, the chairman of the John Philip Souza Foundation Sudler Shield Jury to SMJK Keat Hwa principal Yeoh Chui Seang at the school's hall yesterday, 20 March.

According to Tang Chia Hoe, Keat Hwa's school band coach, the judges were thoroughly impressed by his band's performance which was adapted from a Bruce Lee film
It was also reported that a school from Taiwan, Chien Kuo High School, won the second place while Indonesia's Bahana Sparadha and Malaysia's Victoria Institution secured the third and fourth place, respectively.
This is not the first time Tang has lead a band he coached to victory. Sekolah Menengah Sultanah Asma from Alor Setar was the first school in Malaysia to win the international band competition in 2011 under Tang's guidance.
