The police have identified them as Sim Lai Huat, 58, a Singaporean, and Sooria Kala Kanaseon, 34, a Malaysian. Both were security personnel employed by the appointed security agency, Pico Guards.

Police received a call at 10.11pm requesting assistance at a building along Central Boulevard. Upon arrival, it was established that a fire had occurred. Two persons were discovered by paramedics and pronounced dead at 2am.

A unit at Marina Bay Suites caught fire, and two charred bodies were found by Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) personnel inside the service lift on the 65th floor.

On arrival, firefighters found smoke coming from several upper levels and traced the smoke to the 65th-floor.
They encountered heavy smoke and intense heat as they made their way to the floor.
Using breaking tools, they forced entry into the service lift lobby area of the 65th-floor, and found it fully engulfed in flames.
SCDF said its firefighters put out the blaze with three water jets.
They Found Two Charred Bodies At 2am Inside The Service Lift Opening
A spokesperson from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said a team of officers later broke open the service lift to find two charred bodies on the same floor.

Residents were evacuated earlier but most returned to their units at about 2am on Tuesday.
A handful of residents from the 53rd-floor and above were also evacuated by the officers.
Resident Mrs Akmam said she had to walk down 53 flights of stairs, as the lifts were not working.
Other residents said the atmosphere was fairly calm, despite having to wait over four hours outside the building.
Resident Hugh van Bergen said: "We came down when we heard the fire alarm. We sat on the pavement for about 4 to 4-and-a-half hours whilst the fire services went in to deal with the fire. "It was all fairly calm...We didn't have much information as to what was happening. At the time we were led to believe there were no fatalities."
Raffles Quay Asset Management Says During A Fire, All Lift Are Sent To The Ground Floor And Residents Are Instructed To Use The Stairs
The management said there are residents living in only about 20 of the 221 units in Marina Bay Suites. So far, 203 units have been sold.

It said all lifts are sent to the ground floor during a fire and residents are instructed to evacuate to a safe area on the ground floor using the stairs.

Sooria had been working as a guard at the 221 unit apartment for about four months and resided in a flat in Tampines.
It is learnt that officials are still trying to contact her next of kin and determine her hometown in Malaysia.
