Malaysian content creators who act as 'non-playable characters' (NPCs) can make up to RM4,000 in a single day

Speaking to Harian Metro, Chamiy Malik and Faamiy Malik, a pair of NPC twins known as Cha and Faa, revealed that their daily earnings range between RM3,000 and RM4,000.

"The highest number of audience we have ever achieved was about 18,000 viewers consisting of children, teenagers, and adults," they said.

The twins, who have 200,000 followers on TikTok, said that while what they do might look easy — repeating movements and performing viewers' requests — it actually requires a lot of practice and time management.

"We train to have unison movements and improve each movement based on different types of 'gifts' we receive.

"We livestream twice a day — in the evenings and at night. In the mornings, we manage and operate our online business.

"Our audience is not only Malaysians, but also viewers from South Korea," the siblings said, adding that the latest they had livestreamed was until 4am.

Cha and Faa mentioned that creating NPC content not only generates income through 'coins' (monetary gifts that viewers can send to livestream creators) on TikTok, but they also make money from their online business, which they promote during their livestreams.

They said it was their mother who suggested them to create NPC content due to its popularity on TikTok.

Meanwhile, Nazri Yahya, a content creator with the username @nazri.butterfly on TikTok, said he has been livestreaming as an NPC for the past four months

Due to the popular trend, he told Harian Metro that he can attract around 1,000 to 6,000 viewers per live session.

Despite some labelling NPC creators as "beggars" online, Nazri embraced the trend, emphasising the support he receives from his followers.

"I decided to make NPC content full-time after quitting my job last August and it has made me happy since.

"I was surprised to receive 400 viewers when I first livestreamed, and after livestreaming for three days, I made RM4,000.

"I am aware that there are some insulting comments (about what I do), but I do not take them seriously," he said.
