"Many Are Obese, Have Diabetes" - MP Claims Malaysian Obesity Proves Country's Prosperity
The Kinabatangan MP argued that Malaysians can afford to overeat.
Earlier today, Barisan Nasional lawmaker and Kinabatangan MP Datuk Bung Moktar Radin said obesity-related deaths and diseases debunk Opposition's claims that Malaysia was not prospering
According to Astro Awani, Bung Moktar claimed that obesity rate in the country proves that Malaysians are not living in harsh economic conditions.
He was arguing against remarks made by Opposition leader Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
"I heard that the Opposition leader said many people have no job opportunities and are lacking in consumption of healthy food," he was quoted as saying by Astro Awani.
"No such thing. Our country is most blessed with food," he added.
According to Bung Moktar, Malaysia is fortunate because its people can afford to overeat
Bung Moktar claimed more Malaysians die from overeating than anything else.
"Many are obese, have diabetes, many have high blood pressure, many have heart diseases," he said.
He also argued that this was a result of Malaysians eating meat everyday.
"They eat meat everyday, they eat chicken meat everyday!" he exclaimed.
Malay Mail Online reported that Bung Moktar offered to show Opposition lawmakers countries with food scavengers
In his speech, Bung Moktar claimed that thousands have to go to dustbins to find food in other countries, and this scenario would not be seen in Malaysia.
According to the report, he then offered to bring Opposition lawmakers to countries whose people must scavenge for food.
He was debating the royal address in Dewan Rakyat earlier today.
