Mead Johnson Malaysia has asked consumers and retailers across Malaysia to return its baby milk powder for immediate replacement

Following the news reports of fake milk powder in Johor earlier this month, Mead Johnson Nutrition Malaysia (MJN) has started a Voluntary Product Replacement Program under which the company has advised consumers and retailers nationwide to return Enfalac A+ Step 1 Infant Formula in the 1.8kg box for immediate replacement.

MJN said that the replacement programme is being conducted in light of the investigation into counterfeit products in a handful of retail outlets in Johor Baru.

"The goal of the Program is to remove any counterfeit cartons from the marketplace and allow consumers to easily ensure they only have genuine, high-quality MJN product that is safe for consumption and fit for use per the product label," the company said in a statement today, 16 December.

The company also launched a special product replacement helpline on Friday, 15 December, with easy-to-follow guidance on product verification and replacement for both consumers and retailers

It said that the health and safety of infants is the company's top priority, and they highly value the trusted relationship the company has built with generations of parents and healthcare professionals.

"The reckless and irresponsible acts of the counterfeiters have created worry and uncertainty in the marketplace. Because the counterfeits cannot be easily and definitively identified without opening the carton, consumer concerns can only be addressed and fully resolved through this Product Replacement Program," MJM said.

Consumers can call 1-800-88-3585 between 9am to 11pm Monday to Sunday, or complete this online form for return and replacement instructions.

They will replace the product whether they are opened or unopened.

Meanwhile, Mead Johnson Malaysia said that they will continue to work with the Malaysian authorities to bring the individuals responsible for the counterfeiting to justice and prosecute them to the full extent of the law.

It also warned that they will not hesitate to use appropriate tools and resources to achieve this outcome as it's clear the perpetrators have no regard for the implications of their actions.

A couple of days back, the company had released a PSA to help consumers identify the fake packets:
