PAS Miri supports the idea of Miri becoming the new state capital of Sarawak, but wondered whether it was plausible. Its chief Jofri Jeraiee said in a statement yesterday said Mirians agreed with Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Adenan Satem’s view that the resort city was coming up fast and might even take over from Kuching as the state capital in future.

In supporting the idea, Jofri called for a more organised development plan, and this should include Miri International Airport, Miri international port and affordable housing to reduce squatter colonies in the city.

“There is also a need to build more teacher training institutes, libraries and universities of international standards, upgrading treatment centres and hospitals that are more sophisticated for locals and foreigners.” He also called for modern sports stadium and facilities to train locals to be top-notch athletes, and the provision of a more efficient public transport system, such as Light Rail Transit (LRT) to reduce traffic congestion.
