Former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak has agreed to a public debate about 'how Malaysia became a global kleptocracy'. The topic was recently proposed by DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang.

Najib, however, wants to discuss other topics too.

"Lim has agreed to debate with me.

"He proposed the following topic: 'How Malaysia became a global kleptocracy and how we can become a leading nation of integrity'.

"I accept the topic, but in fairness, we should also discuss other topics during the debate," the former prime minister said in a statement posted on his Facebook page.

Najib also wants the debate between him and Kit Siang to be broadcasted live after Hari Raya Aidilfitri "so that the people know"

"My officers will be in contact with Lim's officer to organise the debate," he said.

The DAP supremo responded in a press statement, saying he had no objections to discuss other topics that Najib wants to talk about

"But the subject of the debate must not be changed and must be clearly publicised as 'How Malaysia became a global kleptocracy and how can we become a leading nation of integrity' whether at the debate venue or elsewhere," Kit Siang said in his statement.

He said that he was appointing his political secretary Syahredzan Johan and parliamentary liaison officer Ahmad Faiz Mustafa "to liaise with Najib's officers" to finalise the details of the debate after Hari Raya.

"Meanwhile, I welcome Malaysians who have views on the subject to email their views and suggestions to [email protected]," the statement posted on his blog read.

Following Kit Siang's statement, Najib took to his Facebook page to add that he forgot to mention previously, but he has a condition

"I have a condition for Kit Siang's debate with me.

"YB Jelutong (R.S.N. Rayer) should not be appointed moderator of the debate," the former prime minister wrote on his post.
