Padang Serai, Kedah will be following a new electoral schedule and will not be joining the rest of Malaysia in the 15th General Election (GE15)

According to a report from The Vibes, nomination day for the Kedah town will be held on 24 November, early voting will be conducted on 3 December, and polling day has been scheduled to 7 December.

Election Commission (EC) website, MySPR Semak, has reportedly removed the link for seat P.017 Padang Serai from its website.

The need to shift electoral dates for Padang Serai arose due to the sudden passing of Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate M Karupaiya

The Padang Serai incumbent passed away from a heart attack, at 2.27pm, on 16 November, just three days before the polling date.

His passing was confirmed by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) information chief Fahmi Fadzil.

According to Malay Mail, incumbent member of parliament (MP) for Kangar, Noor Amin, claimed that Karupaiya's family informed the party of his condition when the late Padang Serai candidate suffered a fall and had to be hospitalised at the Kulim General Hospital.

He was later announced dead after spending two days in the hospital.

"Karu was present during Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's visit to Kulim and Padang Serai on November 14. He then fell down after the event and was taken to the hospital," Noor Amin said in a statement.
