#GE15: PH Candidate For Padang Serai Passes Away 3 Days Ahead Of Polling Day
Karupaiya breathed his last at 2.27pm today, 16 November, at the Kulim General Hospital.
Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for Kedah's Padang Serai parliamentary seat, M Karupaiya, passed away today, 16 November
Karupaiya, who is the seat incumbent, died of a heart attack, just three days before polling day on 19 November.
His death was confirmed by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) information chief Fahmi Fadzil. He added that PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail will be issuing a statement on Karupaiya’s passing later.
There are several, as of yet, unrelated reports regarding his cause of death
PKR colleague and incumbent Member of Parliament for Kangar, Noor Amin, claimed Karupaiya's family informed the party that the late candidate was hospitalised for a fall and subsequently died, as reported by Malay Mail.
"Karu was present during Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's visit to Kulim and Padang Serai on November 14," Noor Amin said. "He then fell down after the event and was taken to the hospital," he added.
According to The Vibes, a source claimed that Karupaiya died of a heart attack.
Kulim district police chief Redzuan Salleh told Free Malaysia Today that Karupaiya breathed his last at 2.27pm today, 16 November at the Kulim General Hospital.
Karupaiya was running for re-election to a second term in the 15th General Elction (GE15)
The PKR incumbent won the seat in the 2018 General Election.
For this year's election, he was in a six-cornered fight against Barisan Nasional's (BN) C. Sivarraajh, Perikatan Nasional's (PN) Azman Nasrudin, Parti Pejuang Tanah Air's Hamzah Abdul Rahman, Parti Warisan's Bakri Hashim, and independent candidate Sreanandha Rao.
