People Sent Gifts To Bangladeshi Cleaner After He Was Mocked For Staring At A Gold Display
"This man deserves to only look at rubbish."
People of the Internet reacted in the most heartwarming way possible when a Bangladeshi cleaner was mocked for gazing longingly at the window display of a jewellery shop in Saudi Arabia
It all started when a photo of the man looking at the display was posted on Instagram with the caption, "This man deserves to only look at rubbish."
Hoping to track down the man, Twitter user Abdullah Al-Qahtani shared a screenshot of the post. Not only did the tweet go viral, netizens managed to identify him as 65-year-old Nazer al-Islam Abdul Karim in just three hours!
Abdullah, the owner of Twitter account @ensaneyat told CNN that he'd set up the Twitter account to connect social media users with people in need across Riyadh.
"I received tons of phone calls and messages in response to my tweet. Some were really helpful, while others were claiming that they were the cleaner," he said.
Twitter users managed to figure out his general location just by identifying the shop window's reflection in the photo. As of the time of writing, the tweet has been retweeted more than 6,800 times.
Saudis began sending money to Nazer, who earns 700 Saudi riyal (RM830) a month. In addition, he has also received bags of rice and honey, two-way tickets to his home country, smartphones, and a set of gold jewellery.
Speaking to CNN, Nazer said, "I was just doing my job as a cleaner in the municipality and found myself in front of the gold shop. I am very happy about the gifts and very thankful."
*sigh* It's always nice to be reminded that there is still some good in the world. :')
