For the family of those who perished on flight MH17, the healing process can finally start.
On Friday, 22 August 2014, Malaysians woke up with a heavy heart. It is the national day of mourning for the victims of MH17.
This is the day the remains of the Malaysian victims leave the Schipol International Airport in Netherlands to return home to Malaysia
Outside the Bunga Raya Complex at KLIA, friends and family of the fallen victims waited to receive the bodies and ashes of their loved ones
Holding white flowers, Malaysia Airlines flight attendants lined the street to welcome their colleagues home
The aircraft carrying the remains of the first 20 of 43 Malaysian victim landed at KLIA at 10am
Soldiers from the Malaysian Armed Forces marched to the aircraft in unison to retrieve the coffins that were draped with the Malaysian flag
The coffins were carried to 20 white hearses ready to transport the remains of the victims back to their respective hometowns
The air was filled with grief as family members watch the ceremony that honoured the people they love
Donned in black, Prime Minister Najib Razak and Deputy Muhyiddin Yassin recited a prayer for the victims
Radio and television airwaves nationwide paused their normal schedule to broadcast this dignified ceremony live
The ninth and tenth coffins brought out were the remains of Mabel Anthony Samy and Paul Rajasingam/Sivagnanam. The body of their son, nine-year-old Matthew, has yet to be identified.
After the last coffin was carried to the hearse, Malaysia fell silent at 10:52am when the minute of silence was called

“They are coming home finally to their resting place. No shouts of joy, just pain, tears will roll, but deep inside us, we know this is what they want, to be home. “We bid you farewell my friends, it was an honour to fly with each and every one of you. Till we meet again, rest well. You will be missed,” Malaysia Airlines senior flight steward Albert Ramanair on the return of his colleagues who were on board Flight MH17.
