PM Ismail Announces RM10,000 Bereavement Aid For Flood Victims' Next Of Kin

In Selangor and Pahang, the death toll has risen to 39 individuals as of Thursday, 23 December.

The government will give RM10,000 bereavement aid to the next of kin for each family member who died as a result of the massive floods

Earlier today, 24 December, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that he will get a list of the names of the victims from the district disaster centre to ensure that the funds were transferred immediately.

"We are very sympathetic and saddened by what happened and we will give donations, we will channel through the district office and they will channel to the next of kin of the victims," he added.

The government had initially announced RM5,000

According to Isabelle Leong, a journalist for The Vibes, the RM5,000 financial assistance for funeral management of flood victims was announced on Thursday, 23 December.

However, the amount has now been increased to RM10,000.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister also announced that the government has allocated RM50 million to Pahang and Selangor to help with their flood relief work.

On the other hand, Rina Mohd Harun has asked people to ignore social media campaigns that seek to discourage them from donating to the government's flood relief fund, calling them "inappropriate":
