A 29-year-old inspector was found dead at about 9am at the Pasir Puteh district police headquarters in Kelantan. The victim has been identified as Ahmad Al-Syamir Sharif Folidin.

According to Kelantan acting police chief, SAC Din Ahmad, the deceased was discovered by his colleague who was searching for him after he failed to show up for a morning meeting.

"The policeman went to the victim's room and saw a body on a chair with blood under the chair before reporting the incident to a police officer," he was quoted as saying by Bernama.

According to media reports, the victim was shot using a Walther P99 pistol

He was pronounced dead by a medical officer at Tengku Anis Hospital (HTA) in Pasir Puteh at 9.40am.

Ahmad, who hails from Selangor, served in the commercial crime department at police headquarters Pasir Puteh since 8 May 2016. Din said that Ahmad was on duty from 8pm until 8am yesterday, and he was responsible for patrolling around Pasir Puteh.

Din also revealed that a neighbour had heard the sound of a gunshot earlier that morning.

"Between 4am to 5am, the victim's neighbour (who is also a colleague) thought he heard a gunshot but did not suspect anything," he reportedly said.

It was learned that Ahmad had previously expressed to his family his intention to stop working due to job-related stress

Ahmad's mother, Noraida Jalalludin, told Harian Metro that her eldest son had spoken to her about the matter prior to his death.

According to her, the last time she met Ahmad was on 27 May when he came home to attend a two-week course in the capital city. She noticed that he looked depressed throughout that period of time.

"When I asked him, he told me that he was under stress with his job and wanted to stop working but my husband and I advised him to mull over it before making his final decision," she was quoted as saying by Harian Metro.

Noraida last spoke to her son over the phone at about 7pm on 31 May, where he once again raised up the matter that he wanted to stop working, causing Noraida to be extremely worried and concerned. She had tried to contact him later at about 11pm and 4am but failed, only to be informed about her son's death by the police the next morning.

Both Noraida and her husband said that he was a good son, and urged the police to conduct a thorough investigation into his death.

The case has been classified as sudden death

Din told reporters that the forensic unit is still investigating the case to identify the cause of death.

The police are also conducting further investigations to determine the motive, including whether the victim was under any stress or not.

It was reported that the victim's body was sent to HTA for post-mortem.
