The Whatsapp message says not to let any "policemen" into your home

Three to four men would knock on doors asking to enter on the pretence of installing shower caps and electric bulbs for free. After entering the homes, they would rob the house.

The Whatsapp message also alerts Malaysians to be vigilant of strangers who claim to be from a water company

It is highly probable that there would be fake policemen roaming the streets as it was recently reported that 30 police shirts were stolen from a laundrette in Shah Alam (not Subang Jaya)

Rohana Muhd Bakri, the owner of the laundry shop along Jalan Musytari Am in Section U5, said police were her regular customers and sent about 30 “corporate shirts” for washing this month.

Some 30 police shirts, many stitched with the names of high-ranking officers, have been stolen from a laundry shop here. The shirts, while not official police uniforms, still feature the forces’ insignia and is grey and black in colour.

Sungai Buloh OCPD Supt Junaidi Bujang warned that the suspects might use the uniforms to impersonate police officers and commit crimes

While the shirts were not official police garb, he said it was possible for the public to mistake imposters as officers if they wore them. The shirts are often used by officers during community programmes.

If a policeman approaches you, Supt Junaidi Bujang advises to always ask to see their police ID card. Police officers are obliged to verify their identity when asked.

A real policeman ID card is light yellow in color with logo and the word “Polis Diraja Malaysia” in front. At the back, there will be a passport size photo, name & matrics number as shown in the picture.

“I would advise people to always ask officers who approach them to verify their identity with their police ID card.We all have them.

All police officers must show you their card if you ask for it.

If they do not produce their identification, you have no obligation to oblige them. Lodge a report if that happens."
