Two policemen recently lost their car to theft. However, the surprising thing in this case is that the perpetrator happens to be a cop!

English daily TheSun reported that the cars that belonged to senior police officers from the Traffic Investigations and Enforcement Department were allegedly stolen by their colleague recently.

The two officers, a deputy superintendent and an assistant superintendent, were away for an assignment. They came back to a shocking discovery when they realised that their cars were gone.

What's even more ironic is the fact that the policemen had left their cars, a Volkswagen Vento and a Proton Saga, parked at the federal police headquarters in Bukit Aman.

How did it happen?

According to TheSun's report, both policemen left their cars at the Bukit Aman's Tower I building although they parked at different floors.

The deputy superintendent had apparently parked on the first floor on 26 September before he left for Terengganu while the other officer parked on the second floor.

The closed-circuit television (CCTV) recordings at the carpark revealed that a policeman was seen driving away both cars on different days. The perpetrator drove away a car each on 30 September at 3am and 1 October at 10pm.

It was reported that in both cases, a white Perodua MyVi driven by an unidentified individual was seen trailing behind the stolen vehicles driven by the rogue policeman.

The good news is the authorities believe that the culprit has been apprehended

Kuala Lumpur police chief Commissioner Datuk Amar Singh Ishar Singh said a police lance corporal, suspected to be behind the thefts, was arrested.

"We are interrogating him to ascertain if he is involved with any car theft syndicates," he was quoted as saying by TheSun.

Although the lance corporal, who is also attached to Bukit Aman, has confessed to being behind the thefts, the stolen cars have yet to be recovered.

The case is being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code for vehicle theft.
