A policewoman in Kuala Lumpur recently lost three family members to COVID-19

Harian Metro reported that on Friday, 21 May, L/KPL Siti Nurul Hawana Amran received the news of her parents' death.

Both of her parents, 56-year-old Amran Sadon and 57-year-old Hasminah Parmin, died while receiving treatment for COVID-19 at the UKM Medical Centre in Cheras.

Meanwhile, her younger brother, 20-year-old Muhammad Luqman Idham Amran, passed away yesterday, 23 May, at Sungai Buloh Hospital.

Her parents tested positive for COVID-19 on 17 May.

Throughout Ramadan, her parents went for tarawih prayers at a nearby surau and Siti Nurul Hawana believes that they may have gotten infected while there.

She explained to Harian Metro, "After finding out that they tested positive, my siblings and I decided to undergo swab tests, but only my brother tested positive while I tested negative."

The officer, who is assigned to the Sentul police headquarters, then said that her mother was sent to the UKM Medical Centre on Thursday, 20 May, as her condition got worse.

"But when I told my father that my mother's condition was getting critical, he suddenly complained about breathing difficulties. We called an ambulance and he was sent to the same hospital that night," she said.

"However, the hospital was unable to save them and my parents passed away the next day. They did not even get to leave any messages for me."

She said that her brother, who was receiving treatment at Sungai Buloh Hospital, also lost hope after hearing about their parents' death.

"But I did not expect that my brother would also pass away," she said.

The officer is now under quarantine until 30 May along with her niece and sister-in-law after a swab test around 10am yesterday.

She expressed her hopes of not getting infected with COVID-19, along with her brother's family.

According to Sinar Harian, Siti Nurul Hawana has received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine on 7 May.

"My late parents were buried at a Muslim cemetery in Sungai Besi around 4pm on Friday, while my brother was buried around 1pm yesterday."

Sentul district police chief ACP Beh Eng Lai confirmed that the officer is currently under quarantine after her family members died from COVID-19

"The officer has been contacted by the Ministry of Health to undergo swab tests. As of now, the police headquarters will operate as usual and this area is always sanitised in order to avoid COVID-19 infection," he said to Harian Metro.
