Fire At Burst Pipeline Opens 'Portal To Hell' In The Middle Of The Ocean
This morning, 3 July, the Twitter feed of Malaysians was filled with absolutely real but unbelievable footage of the ocean on fire, literally
The seemingly "portal to hell" opened up after a rupture in an undersea gas pipeline in the Gulf of Mexico early on Friday, 2 July
It took fire-fighting boats more than five hours to put out the fire
According to a report in Reuters, the fire on the ocean surface west of Mexico's Yucatan peninsula has now been extinguished after more than five hours of fire-fighting boats spraying more water on the flame.
The fire began in an underwater pipeline that connects to a platform at Mexico's state-owned oil company Pemex's flagship Ku Maloob Zaap oil development, the Reuters report said.
