That Moment A BKT Shop Charges You For An Empty Plate (Inclusive Of GST)
The restaurant's reasoning was, "Well who pays for the dish to be washed?"
In an incident that occurred on Sunday, 7 June, Pao Xiang Bak Kut Teh outlet at Centro Mall, Klang, charged one of its customer, Mavis Law, RM2.12 (inclusive of GST) for an item labelled "Empty Plate"
Mavis, who was there for breakfast, initially did not notice the odd charge, but when she finally took note of the entry of "Empty Plate", she decided to enquire about it with the staff, reported the Ant Daily
The restaurant's reasoning was, "Well who pays for the dish to be washed?"
However, after some deliberation, the staff struck off the item from her receipt and refunded her the amount. Following which, Mavis proceeded to upload the photo of the receipt along with a post on her Facebook profile, which subsequently went viral.
According to the Ant Daily, Mavis stated in her post that it was not a complaint against Pao Xiang but to just serve as a reminder for everyone to check their receipts carefully, lest they be inaccurately charged.
However, as Candy Jiang of the Ant Daily aptly notes, it seems that all the attention her post has garnered has spooked Mavis, because it no longer exists and Mavis' FB account has been set to private
The charge itself is likely to be a simple error made by a newly hired employee. The company itself has not issued any statement on its Facebook post, and with the removal of the post by Mavis, it looks like this incident has come to an end.
