Early this morning, 5 March, a 53-year-old woman tragically died when a landslide struck her home in Sabah

At around 4am, Sitti Harija Norulla had just finished her sahur meal with her son Zulkiman, 25, when they heard a loud sound outside their home in Kampung Lok Bonu, Sepanggar, as reported by the New Straits Times.

"My brother said he stepped outside to check, and suddenly there was a tremor.

"He tried to pull my mother's hand to escape, but the tremor was too strong, and he was thrown aside. Our house had already moved several metres from its original position," said Al, the victim's 39-year-old son who was working at a nearby factory at the time of the incident.

When contacted and informed of the incident, Al immediately rushed home and searched for his mother, with other villagers lending a hand.

Though they managed to find the victim buried under the landslide and attempted to rescue her, it was difficult to do so.

Kota Kinabalu Fire and Rescue Station chief Ordine Gilu confirmed receiving an emergency call about the tragedy at 4.32am

According to him, a team of 11 firefighters was dispatched to the scene, where they found the victim's house buried under the landslide.

"There were two victims involved. One of them, a 53-year-old woman, was confirmed dead at the scene, while the other victim survived without any injuries," he said, as quoted by Harian Metro.
