Selangor To Get New Deputy State Speaker On 24 November
The appointment of a new Selangor deputy speaker will only be known during the state assembly sitting on Nov 24, said state speaker Hannah Yeoh.

Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali said he would slash his salary and those of his state executive councillors because he could not face the people being burdened with the high cost of living.

He said that the move, which will be put in motion during the 2015 state budget presentation in November, was part of the state government's effort to reduce administrative spending. He said the pay cut would also include entertainment expenses and certain allowances.

"This will be my stance to cut the salaries of the menteri besar, exco, speaker and deputy speaker to a more reasonable rate as I feel the 2013 rate is just too high," he said. "(If this goes on) I will not be able to face the people who are burdened with high cost of living," Azmin told reporters after attending an assembly with civil servants of the Gombak District Office today.

Azmin said that the current budget which follows the formula of the national budget, allocates 80% for administrative spending and 20% for development. This, he said has impacted many lower-income earners. "The upcoming 2015 state budget will see a more reasonable hike in spending for development and a reduction in the administrative costs," he said.

1 Oct: The Full Selangor Exco Portfolios Has Finally Been Revealed
Selangor Mentri Besar Azmin Ali announced the portfolios for himself and his 10 state executive councillors, Wednesday.

The rest of the ten-member exco comprises four PKR representatives and three each from PAS and DAP. PAS retains the portfolio on religion, and all eyes will be on its exco-in-charge, Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi, to see how the impasse over the Malay and Iban Bibles seized by the Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (JAIS) will be handled.

Azmin said that the position of the Selangor legislative assembly deputy speaker was a low-priority for now and can be decided when the state assembly sitting convenes in November.

Azmin, who is also PKR deputy president, is under pressure to offer PAS excos more “important” portfolios as it would signal an acknowledgement of the Islamist party's share of 15 seats in the Selangor state assembly. DAP also has 15 while PKR is down to 13 after sacking Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim. But some PKR and DAP leaders are demanding that PAS be punished for backing Azmin’s predecessor, Khalid who had refused to step down as mentri besar when directed by his party, prompting his eventual expulsion from PKR.

Azmin refuted allegations that the reduction of seats for PAS was a "punishment" for not supporting PKR and DAP's nomination of Wan Azizah for the post of mentri besar during the Selangor political crisis. "This was all done through the mutual understanding between the three PR parties," he added.
