After 16 long years, Malaysia finally has the honour of hosting the SEA Games once again

The upcoming 29th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games and the 9th ASEAN Para Games are branded as 'Kuala Lumpur 2017' (KL2017) as the events will be held in Kuala Lumpur between 19th - 31st August 2017 and 17th - 23rd September 2017 respectively.

The last time Malaysia hosted the SEA Games was in 2001, where the nation emerged as the overall champion.

Kuala Lumpur 2017 is going to be an important milestone as the games will coincide with the celebration of Malaysia's 60th Independence Day as well as Malaysia Day.

The Malaysian Sea Games Organising Committee (MASOC) has also introduced the official mascot for the games ahead of the biennial multi-sports event. Meet RIMAU!

RIMAU stands for Respect, Integrity, Move, Attitude and Unity.

To ensure the success of the games, MASOC is looking for 20,000 volunteers. Here's how you can be a part of the momentous occasion:

1. Visit the official Kuala Lumpur 2017 website and choose which task you're up for. There are plenty of options to choose from, ranging from anti-doping to prize giving to safety and traffic control.
2. Choose which event you'd like to volunteer in - either the 29th SEA Games (19th and 31st August 2017) or the 9th ASEAN Para Games (17th to 23rd September 2017).

3. Then, choose the sporting event accordingly.

4. Fill in the online application form with your personal and contact details. Make sure they are up-to-date and accurate.

That's it! Remember to check your email as a confirmation message will be sent once the form is submitted.

How do you know if you're selected?

As long as you're a Malaysian above the age of 16, you may apply to be considered as a volunteer. Do note that a volunteer that is under the age of 18 years must seek parent/guardian consent.

Selection will be done based on:
1. Relevant experience
2. Academic/work background and fields of expertise
3. Other factors such as communication skills, ability to speak in other languages etc.

Notification of successful applicants will be delivered in stages via e-mail. Every selected volunteer must attend the two training sessions organised by MASOC.

Volunteers won't be getting any monetary reward but the organisers will provide the following items:

1. Daily food non-cash allocation
2. Official volunteer t-shirt and trousers
3. Certificate of participation

Of course, above all, volunteers are given this chance to get closer to the event than ever before – to witness the tears and sweat, to share and support the passion for sports.

Don't forget to share this story and let your friends know about this! :)

Registration will only be closed when the Games start in August 2017. However, don't delay your application as the screening will take some time.
