SG Man Pretends His Phone Is Broken After Woman Confronts Him Of Taking Photos Of Her
The man said his phone had problems and claimed he was trying to call a friend.
A TikTok user recently called out a middle-aged man for openly taking photos of her during her train ride in Singapore on Saturday, 25 February
The user @daizamazze, who goes by Daisy on TikTok, said she saw the old man blatantly taking photos of her without her permission, and so she followed him out onto the Tanah Merah MRT platform to confirm her suspicion.
As she walked behind him down a flight of stairs, she saw him looking through the photos he took of her in the train and immediately confronted him.
However, when she confronted the man, he proceeded to act clueless and said his phone was having "problems"
According to the TikTok video, Daisy began filming the man as he pretended to struggle with his phone.
"There's no point ignoring me, I saw the photos, you can delete the photos," she said to the man.
"Okay, I delete, (mumbling) because my phone got problem, I (wanted) to call," replied the man as he closed and reopened several apps on his phone.
The video showed that the man did take seven photos of Daisy's lower body from his gallery, to which he agreed to delete, while explaining that he was trying to call his friend but couldn't exit the camera mode.
The man then swiped his gallery to show her that all her pictures were gone, and revealed a picture of another woman in workout tights that was similar to Daisy's.
He then faked a phone call and began walking away when Daisy marched past him and threatened him not to do it again.
"I can see you're not calling anyone, you don't have to pretend. Just don't take pictures of girls, it's f*cking weird."
The TikTok garnered over one million views in less than a day, and users filled the comment section with mixed reactions
Many rushed to Daisy's side and admired her for standing up for herself.
"Him 'calling' someone. I'm so sorry this happened to you, I'm glad you were brave enough to stand up for yourself," praised a user.
While many were supportive of her decisions, some users did not agree with what she had done, with one saying, "This is not illegal. It's not an upskirt. You easily triggered Generation Z's need to read up on the law and get it straight."
There were many users who remained neutral, and advised her on the better ways she could have responded.
"Make sure (the pictures) in the bin (is) also deleted. If he just (deletes them) like that, it's not permanently deleted and he can still retrieve (them) back from (the) bin," advised a user.
In a conversation with SAYS, Daisy said she has stopped reading the comments as the ones that pop up often leave her feeling angry
According to Daisy, she has received a lot of support from users on both TikTok and Instagram, so much that she has not had the time to reply everyone just yet.
She remarked that women were the most empathetic towards her and what she went through, and knew exactly what to say to support her. She acknowledged that most of the comments on TikTok came from a good place but only told her the things she could have done.
"It's really unhelpful, it's not like I can go back in time and change what happened."
