The video recording was shared by a Facebook user named Sir Azri, who warned others to be cautious of this modus operandi used by petty criminals to distract unsuspecting victims.

In the video, the culprit can be seen standing and looking around before he putting down something that is believed to be a coin on the floor, near the victim.

He then approached the victim and appeared to have asserted that the victim may have dropped something.

This was the cunning distraction ploy used by this particular thief to steal victim's mobile phone.

While the victim reached down to pick up the item on the floor, the thief then positioned himself to be at the suspect's left, sliding his hand onto the table and took the victim's phone.

The thief successfully stole the phone without the victim even noticing.

He took the phone and immediately brought it to another table nearby and hid it under the keyboard for a moment, as another customer sitting beside the victim turned back to look at him.

After making sure the coast was clear, the thief eventually took the phone and walked away with it.

It was learned that the other customer, who turned back to look at the thief, had actually noticed that the latter took the phone

Izzul Hakimi left a comment in the viral video saying that he was not an accomplice as some of the netizens have claimed.

He explained that he had thought that the thief was the victim's friend because the way he took the phone was extremely casual.

"I thought maybe the thief was taking back his phone from his friend (the victim), so I was lazy to alert the victim," read the comment on Facebook.

Izzul added that he had observed the victim, and said that he (the victim) had put all his concentration into the game that he was playing to the point that he did not even notice that someone was calling him on the phone earlier.
