More than 170 people were injured as two trains collided in the South Korean capital’s subway, Yonhap news agency reports citing firefighters. Passengers are now being evacuated from the underground railway.

Trains are halted between Euljiro 1-ga station and Seongsu station on Line 2, operator Seoul Metro said in a statement on its website. It’s the busiest subway line in the city of 10.4 million, carrying more than 2 million people a day, according to the Seoul government.

An onboard announcement initially told passengers to stay inside, but most people ignored it and forced the doors open to escape, a witness said. A doctor at a hospital near the station said injured people were walking in for treatment and did not appear to be seriously hurt.
