Survey: Teachers & Doctors Among Most Trusted Professions In Malaysia
The survey also found that trust in many professions is on the rise, including for lawyers, bankers, and journalists.
Global market research firm Ipsos has revealed the most and least trusted professions in Malaysia for this year
The study, released yesterday, 19 December, surveyed a total of 23,530 adults across 32 different countries, with at least 1,000 individuals from each country.
The survey found that key professions such as doctors, teachers, scientists, and the armed forces consistently ranked among the top five most trusted professions across different countries.
This was also observed in Malaysia, where teachers, doctors, scientists, the armed forces, and judges ranked as the top five most trusted professions.
Over half of those surveyed considered teachers (59%) and doctors (55%) to be trustworthy.
According to Ipsos, the survey also found that trust is rising for many professions, including lawyers, bankers, and journalists.
Meanwhile, politicians are the least trusted group in Malaysia, reflecting global trends
In this year's survey, politicians have a rival for the least trustworthy profession. Social media influencers are also experiencing substantial distrust, ranking among the top five least trusted professions in Malaysia.
Government ministers, advertising executives, and religious leaders also received low trust ratings, with distrust rates of less than 36%, placing them third, fourth, and fifth, respectively.
However, notably, Malaysians tend to show lower distrust levels towards these professions compared to the global average.
