Tabung Harapan Surpasses RM200 Million Mark Before It Officially Closes On 31 December
The official trust fund was launched by the Pakatan Harapan government on 30 May.
On 30 May, the newly elected Pakatan Harapan government launched Tabung Harapan Malaysia (THM), an official trust fund designated for donations from members of the public in an effort to alleviate the country's RM1 trillion debt
The fund, managed by the Ministry of Finance (MOF), was launched after various crowdfunding campaigns were started by members of the public to contribute to the federal government's debts.
"In order to provide a systematic and transparent platform to ensure all contributions and donations from the people are properly managed and organised, the Government has decided to establish a special trust fund called Tabung Harapan Malaysia (THM)," read a statement released by the Government on 30 May.
The fund has been successful since its inception.
On 25 June, less than a month since its launch, Tabung Harapan breached the RM100 million mark.
With the fund set to officially close on 31 December, Tabung Harapan broke the RM200 million mark in its final week
It was announced on the Finance Ministry's official Facebook page that the fund had collected RM200,032,580.24 as of 3pm on 26 December.
The government has confirmed that the National Audit Department would audit the fund's account receipt and payment statement to ensure that it is managed with integrity.
The Finance Ministry will also appoint an external audit firm to audit Tabung Harapan's accounts in line with Section 7 of the Audit Act, Malaysiakini reported.
A round of applause to all Malaysians who donated for this incredible show of support! #MalaysiaBoleh
