Taman Medan Man Jailed For 12 Months For Kicking And Threatening His Wife Over Money

A 35-year-old man, who pleaded guilty to kicking and criminally intimidating his wife over financial woes, has been sentenced to 12 months behind bars by the magistrate's court in Petaling Jaya

The accused, Mohd Malek Mohd Ghani, had assaulted his wife last Sunday.

During the day of the assault, Mohd Ghani had kicked his wife, Maznah Ramli, aged 26, on her left thigh at their house at Desa Mentari 3, Jalan 2D/1, Taman Medan.

According to a report in NST Online, Magistrate Nurshahira Abdul Salim meted out the sentence under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt.

According to the facts of the case, he had threated the wife saying, "I'm heating the oil and I will make you sorry for the rest of your life"

He was charged under Section 506 of the same Code for criminal intimidation.

For the criminal intimidation charge, Mohd Ghani was sentenced to three months in jail, and for the charge of causing hurt, he was sentenced to 12 months in jail.

However, the court ordered him to serve the sentences concurrently.

Mohd Ghani was not represented in the court while Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Abu Arsalnaa Zainal Abidin was prosecuting
