The early morning incident happened outside an entertainment complex in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. According to district police chief Assistant Commissioner M.Chandra, three from the group were severely injured, while one boy, a 17-year-old died from the attack and injuries.

M.Chandra said that the body of the teenager was found with slash wounds on his forehead and neck at Jalan Coastal at about 4.15am this morning.

"The body of 17-year-old Yacoob Nasran was sent to Queen Elizabeth hospital for a post-mortem.

"Another three of the group, who were severely wounded, are in stable condition at the hospital," added M.Chandra, as reported by NST today, 15 December.

The report explained that the boys were just coming out of an entertainment outlet when they saw a man arguing with a lady.

The argument apparently became a little too heated, which led to the boys trying to calm the 26-year-old man down.

"(But the) man become incensed and (called to his male) cousin, (who was nearby), to help him attack the (young men). "(Using a) machete, (the duo then) attacked the young people," explained Chandra.

The boys were in a group of seven, aged between 18 and 20.

The authorities told NST that investigations show that the young man was arguing with his ex-wife due to jealousy. The wife is believed to be working at an entertainment outlet near Asia Star City Complex in KK.

The authorities confirmed that two men have been arrested in connection to the attack. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
