The Country's Oldest Malay Newspaper Utusan Malaysia Is Now Back Along With Kosmo!
The two publications ceased operations last year due to financial troubles.
The country's oldest newspaper Utusan Malaysia and its sister publication Kosmo! have returned to local newsstands
The two publications ceased operations roughly 10 months ago after Utusan Melayu Malaysia Bhd shut down on 9 October due to financial troubles.
On Monday, 20 June, the two dailies have re-entered the market under Media Mulia Sdn Bhd.
The Malaysian Reserve reported that the newspapers will also see the return of their weekend editions which are Mingguan Malaysia and Kosmo! Ahad.
An online launch event was held on Saturday, 18 July, to celebrate the revival of the newspapers
The event went on for over seven hours and it featured local celebrities such as Hattan, Jamal Abdillah, Rozita Che Wan, and Fazley Yaakob.
Also present was the former finance minister, Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, who visited the Media Prima Bhd Balai Berita office in Bangsar.
Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah also applauded the relaunch of Utusan Malaysia and Kosmo!
In a post by the Istana Negara's official Instagram account, the Agong expressed his hope that both newspapers will continue to report and witness the country's history and promote freedom of speech.
He noted that the return of Utusan Malaysia and Kosmo! is vital in building an excellent nation as well as the development of a knowledgeable and informed society in the digital era.
