Learn More About Immunotherapy And Cancer Research At These Free Workshops This Weekend
Cancer Research Malaysia will be hosting an event this weekend with screenings, workshops, and other fun activities.
For too long, cancer has gripped us with fear as an uncontrollable and difficult-to-treat disease
Cancer Research Malaysia (CRM), a non-profit research organisation, aims to turn that around by hosting events to provide screenings and to encourage people to go through treatments if needed.
Behind the organisation is a team of dedicated cancer researchers driven to find new ways for prevention and cure.
In conjunction with the inaugural World Reverse Cancer Day, CRM will be hosting an event at APW, Bangsar this weekend from 31 March to 1 April
There will be educational workshops about immunotherapy, genetics, screenings, and other activities.
As a way to spread awareness that cancer can be reversed, World Reverse Cancer Day is set up on 2 April. The date was chosen because it's a flip to 4 February where World Cancer Day takes place every year.
“We want the public to recognise that the fight against cancer and our ability to reverse cancer has to start with cancer research,” said CRM chief executive Prof Dr Teo Soo-Hwang as reported in New Straits Times.
“...Malaysia is going to experience double the number of cancer cases in the next 30 years.
“It would be great if we could go back to the days of our grandparents when cancer was not so common.”
Even though Asians make up more than half of the world’s population, only 5% of genetic studies involve Asians, she added
Hence, CRM is focusing on Asians to find out our risk to diseases, response to treatment, and development of new treatments that are relevant to us, she stated.
“All cures that we have today are based on research done in the past. If we have more people surviving from cancer, then it is no longer a disease that we fear so much,” she said.
