On 30 October 2019, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) announced that they have prepared their three hydroelectric dams in order to mitigate flood damage
The dams in question are the Cameron Highlands Power Station in Pahang, the Sungai Perak Electric Power Station in Perak, and the Kenyir Power Station in Terengganu.
In the statement, TNB's Chief Generation Officer, Roslan Abd Rahman, said that they have made these early preparations in response to the monsoon season
"Besides generating electricity, the TNB dams have the capacity to store water upstream, which can prevent bigger disasters from happening in downstream areas during the monsoon season."
He also stated that several briefings and emergency training sessions have been held at the hydroelectric stations as well as at TNB's operations office
These sessions were held in order to increase efficiency and to prepare everyone for the monsoon season.
"These preparations are held in collaboration with local authorities as well as relevant agencies in order to ensure a controlled water release process at several hydroelectric dams, based on their Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)."
Finally, he assured the public that all TNB-owned dams are safe and in good condition
