Earlier today, 5 March, two people were injured after a tree fell and crashed onto their motorcycle as they were riding along Jalan Ampang

The incident happened at about 7:30 am, with the fallen tree blocking at least three lanes of a busy road at the junction facing Menara Public Bank.

A motorcyclist and his pillion rider suffered head injuries from the incident

"The fallen tree crashed into a motorcycle causing head injuries to the rider and passenger, while another car was crushed by the tree as the driver managed to escape unharmed," said Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department director Khirudin Drahman.

According to Berita Harian, the couple - identified as 38-year old Norazrul Mohd and 25-year old Mira Ezva Abd Rasid - just got married the evening before at a mosque in Cheras.

"This is a huge test for the both of us as we were wedded for less than a day. I hope my husband will recover soon enough," Mira said.

"We are lucky we were not crushed by the fallen tree, but I will not hesitate to take action against the responsible parties as it endangers civilians' lives," she explained.

Both victims have been sent to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for treatment.

One other vehicle was also crushed by the tree. Fortunately, the driver escaped unharmed.

64 year old Ong Chee Took said that, "Out of nowhere the tree collapsed on top of my car, and I was left with a headache soon after."

Rescuers from the Jalan Tun Razak and Pudu fire stations managed to extricate the victims at the scene

The clean-up work by the fire department and Kuala Lumpur City Council was reported to have taken slightly more than an hour.

It is advised that motorists headed towards the city centre today use alternative routes.
