Two Men Stripped And Paraded Naked Through The Streets For Allegedly Raping A Girl
The incident happened in Arunachal Pradesh, India on 25 March.
Two men accused of raping a 17-year-old girl were beaten and forced to walk naked through the streets of Yingkiong, a town in Arunachal Pradesh, India, with their hands tied behind their back
According to India Today, a high school girl was allegedly raped by four men, including her boyfriend, near an under-construction bridge on 25 March, police deputy inspector general John Neihlaia said.
He also confirmed that an angry mob led the pair of naked men through the streets before they were handed over to the police.
Neihlaia said the teenage victim knew one of the men through social media and had agreed to go out with him before she was allegedly raped by him and three of his friends on Sunday
The suspects dropped the victim back at her home at 2am. Together with her parents, the girl filed a police report in the following morning.
Neihlaia added, "Meanwhile, the victim’s relatives and neighbours caught two of the accused and handed them over to the police."
Currently, the police are still looking for the other two suspects who are believed to be in their 20s.
As a result of public outcry and pressure, the state government has enacted a legislation recently which would punish rapists to a death penalty for those convicted of raping girls below the age of 12
This is the second rape incident in Yingkiong this year, as reported by India Today. A six-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her teacher on 22 February.
Similar to this case, earlier this month, a man accused of raping a 12-year-old was paraded naked around Daporijo town in Upper Subansiri district before he was handed over to the police.
Meanwhile, on 19 February, a mob of around 800 people stormed into the Tezu police station in Lohit district and dragged out two men. The pair were lynched by an angry mob in public after they were accused of raping and murdering five-year-old a girl.
