This annual Asian Oceanian College robot competition was founded in 2002 by the Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union and has since been hosted by different countries in Asia.

The competition basically requires the robots built by the teams to complete a particular task within a set period of time.

This year's Robocon was held at the Huamark Indoor Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand with the uniting theme of "Clean Energy Recharging The World" on 21 August.

With the aim of creating awareness on efficient energy consumption and clean and renewable energy utilisation, Robocon 2016 required each team to build two robots, an Eco Robot and another Hybrid Robot. The Eco Robot without an actuator must receive its driving energy from the Hybrid Robot. The team members must then guide the robots with magnetic force, wind or other forces to complete the task.

Robocon 2016 saw the participation 17 universities from 16 countries including India, China, Thailand, Indonesia, Pakistan, Japan, and Mongolia

With Malaysia emerging as the champions, China's Northeastern University took the 1st runner up spot while Japan's University of Tokyo and Indonesia's Electronic Engineering Polytechnic Institute of Surabaya shared the 2nd runner up award.

What's more commendable is that UTM's victory comes after 15 attempts of trying to win the competition in the past years. Kudos for your persistence, guys! :D
