[VIDEO] Food Delivery Rider Gets Attacked After Counting His Customer's Change Too Slowly
The rider has lodged a police report against the man for causing grievous hurt.
A Foodpanda delivery rider was allegedly assaulted by a customer after experiencing a few hiccups while delivering his food in Bukit Mertajam, Penang
According to New Straits Times, the 34-year-old rider has lodged a police report against the man for kicking and punching him in the face as well as shouting racist profanities at him.
Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage of the altercation has since gone viral on Facebook.
Initial investigations by the police revealed that the incident happened around 11am on Thursday, 6 August, at a homestay on Lorong Seri Impian 8, Taman Alma
Seberang Perai Tengah district police chief Assistant Commissioner (ACP) Shafee Abd Samad said the 33-year-old suspect had rented the house for five days through Booking.com.
The delivery rider had contacted him on WhatsApp before arrival for confirmation of his address due to some initial confusion.
However, upon reaching the house, the rider said the customer was shouting angrily at him from the main gate of the house.
"The victim then handed over the order to the suspect, and in return, he gave him a RM50 note. As the victim was counting the balance, the suspect started hurling more abuses, accusing the victim of being slow," said the police chief.
"The suspect then took his money back from the victim's hand and gave him the food order, saying he did not want it anymore."
The delivery rider told the customer if that was the case, he would have to report the food cancellation to Foodpanda
As a result, the suspect took back the food and threw the money on the floor.
The delivery driver took the money but in turn, left the change on the floor, which sent the customer into a fit of anger and he started kicking and punching him.
Not stopping there, he went to the victim's motorcycle and tried to push it over.
"When the suspect tried to push the motorcycle down, the victim also hit the suspect using his helmet," said Shafee.
The fight was finally broken up by the homestay's owner.
