[VIDEO] "Blimey!" — Malaysia Airlines Earns Praise For Skilful Landing At Heathrow Airport
In the footage, the plane is seen performing a "crabbing" landing.
The pilots of a Malaysia Airlines flight have gained praise for their skilful landing at London's Heathrow Airport (LHR) during a storm over the weekend
A video shared on the 'True Malaysia Airlines Fans' Facebook page, originally from aviation spotter Big Jet TV's YouTube livestream, captured the Malaysia Airlines Airbus A350-900 smoothly touching down, despite being buffeted by strong crosswinds from Storm Darragh.
"Interesting video... Looks like row 40 in Economy was landing first. Many go-arounds today at LHR because of Storm Darragh," read the caption accompanying the video.
The Malaysia Airlines landing also received a remark of surprise from the video's commentator: "Blimey! Huge swing there. That's a massive crabbing to the landing. Awesome."
In the footage, the plane is seen performing a "crabbing" landing — a manoeuvre where the aircraft approaches the runway at an angle to counter crosswinds, resulting in its rear appearing non-perpendicular to the runway.
