Rapid KL has announced plans to increase train capacity and frequency on the Kajang Line following a viral video highlighting severe congestion at Pasar Seni MRT Station

Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana), the operator of Rapid KL, stated that the number of trains on the Kajang Line will be increased from 39 to 42 by March 2025.

Train frequency during peak hours will also be improved, with intervals reduced from four minutes to 3.7 minutes to shorten platform waiting times, particularly during rush hour.

Prasarana has also begun deploying auxiliary police to key areas such as train platforms and escalators to ensure passengers can move about safely.

These improvements come after a video showing severe overcrowding at Pasar Seni MRT Station on Tuesday, 26 November, went viral on social media

The video, shared by @ihsanlikestoeat, was taken during peak hours at around 6.45pm. Platforms were packed with commuters as a large crowd descended from escalators, struggling to move and bumping into each other.

In response to the incident, Prasarana has promised to take measures to prevent similar situations in the future.

"Prasarana apologises for the inconvenience experienced by the passengers during the incident and will continue to make improvements to ensure the journey of Rapid KL passengers is safe, comfortable and smooth," the corporation said in a statement on 30 November.
