Last night, 19 May, someone on Twitter uploaded a mobile footage of a brawl that turned ugly. It involved a group of men and a couple of British tourists outside a restaurant in Penang Road, Georgetown.
While it is not immediately clear as to what prompted the men to get into the brawl that turned bloody, according to Bernama, one of the British man was allegedly beaten unconscious by the men
Police have been unable to get his statement at the press time as the British tourist, who sustained a neck injury, was reportedly undergoing surgery.
According to Bernama, which quoted Northeast District police chief ACP Anuar Omar, there were traces of blood at the scene of the brawl.
"The 39-year-old victim's friend, who is also British, had mentioned that he was not aware of the incident and only saw a group of dark-skinned men gathered around. Upon arrival, he saw the victim already lying on the ground and covered in blood," ACP Anuar said while citing the statement from the victim's friend.
So far, a 38-year-old man has been detained
While police are in the midst of tracking down other suspects, the 38-year-old man is being remanded until Thursday to facilitate the investigation.
