CCTV Footage Shows Man Stealing A Car In Kepong In 30 Seconds
Just like that.
A man has been filmed stealing a car in broad daylight near a Kepong restaurant yesterday, 12 July
CCTV footage shows the man, who looked like he was on a call, pacing near a white Toyota Camry parked outside a restaurant in Kepong, Kuala Lumpur.
He was seen engaging with a device in his right hand.
The man tried opening the car door twice but to no avail. His third try was successful.
He then nonchalantly stepped into the vehicle and drove off.
From start to finish, the deed only took about 30 seconds.
China Press talked to the car owner's daughter, who said her father was having a meal at the restaurant when the incident happened
He was shocked to find his car missing 20 minutes later.
"We have lodged a police report. Anyone who has seen a white Toyota Camry with the number plate WXD 2213, please inform the nearest police station," she said as quoted by China Press.
Reports earlier this year detailed how easy it was for thieves to hack into keyless vehicles through frequency-hacking devices
The device, which costs about RM150, can be bought online or at some electronics stores. It can unlock a car and start its engine by hacking its radio frequency identification (RFID) information, The Straits Times reported.
A source told the English daily that almost every keyless vehicle can be broken into with the device.
