In an incident that happened on Friday, 22 February, a burglar, who was trying to break into a house along Lorong Hup Kee in Kuching during the broad daylight, was caught red-handed by residents

The house owner had received an alert on his mobile phone when the security system alarm at his house went off. He then called his neighbours to check on his house. After the neighbours promptly checked the house, they noticed a burglar trying to break-in.

When the burglar realised he had been seen, he tried to escape by climbing the house's roof in a bid to evade capture. However, his attempt to hide on the roof failed when he lost his footing and fell to the ground, injuring himself in the process.

The entire action was captured on video, which showed the burglar and two men on the roof, with the burglar pulling out what looked like a machete and threatening one of the men to back off

A crowd of residents then banded together to nab the burglar. In a second video, the crowd is seen beating the suspect with sticks:

The badly bruised 28-year-old was then handed over to the police

Sarawak CID chief SAC Dennis Leong Soon Kuai said he was found with stolen goods in his sling bag and was later brought to the Sarawak General Hospital for treatment.

Reportedly, the burglar had an accomplice who managed to escape.
