This is the CCTV footage which captured the thief stealing my beg at GSC Mid Valley. It happened in Hall 15, last Saturday, 20th of July 2013. My seat number was A1, the nearest one to the entrance door.

First, i have to admit it was carelessness on my side to put my bag under the seat. I have always thought the Cinema a safe place but little did I know my bag would be gone after the movie.

From the CCTV footage, the thief made a clean sweep and my bag was gone within minutes. It made me wonder, how was he able to know there would be people placing their begs under the their seats ? Or was I marked even before I went into the cinema?

Immediately after, calls were made and all my cards were blocked. Then i waited for 4-5 hours for the GSC CCTV footage.

According to GSC management, this is not the first time

The authority refused to send me the footage at first, but finally gave in after I requested a few times and visited the cinema second time. According to the staff, I was not the 1st victim. There were cases prior to this one.

I told the police that the CCTV showed the face of the thief clearly. Police told me "Amoi, Walaupun u tengok muka jelas, kita tak ada particular, tak boleh tangkap orang'.

Here's how to keep your belongings safe at the movies (click to view)

If you have to leave your bags on the floor, put it in front of your legs where you can see and feel it, instead of under the seat. Keep in mind that cinema floors are full of leftover popcorn, rubbish and dirt. That, in the picture, is a panty liner on the floor.

Make sure you check your pockets, your seats and the seat next to you before leaving the cinema. You might have left your bags in the empty seat next to you. Or maybe your handphone slipped out of your pocket while you were lazing in your seat. Be safe, check before you leave!

See that giant bucket of popcorn on her lap? That is the safest place to put your bags. It's hard to forget your belongings when you have it in your hands.

If you went shopping before your movie and ended up with a handful of shopping bags, don't carry it with you into the cinema. Store it in the boot of your car before you head for your movie. It is easy to forget that one or two shopping bags when you are rushing out of the cinema hall in the dark.

Cup holders are meant for, you guessed it, cups. The little round hole might seem like a convenient place to put your handphone, but you might also conveniently leave your phone there for the next person- much like how you leave you cup of coke there for the janitors to clean.
