A little boy was riding his bicycle in the driveway of his Bakersfield, California, home when he was suddenly attacked by a neighbor's dog, ABC affiliate KERO reported. Luckily, the family cat, Tara, came to the rescue.

It pulls Jeremy off his bike, repeatedly biting his leg as the terrified child lies on the ground.

Incredibly, Tara the cat then rushes to Jeremy’s aid barreling into the dog, chasing it away then returning to check on the boy.

"My cat defends my son during a vicious dog attack and runs the dog off before he can do additional damage," Triantafilo wrote in in the video's description. "Thankfully, my son is fine!"

Jeremy suffered bite wounds while the dog will be euthanised after being taken by animal control

The eight-month-old dog which escaped when the neighbours opened their driveway gates to drive out was picked up by animal control and will be put down.

TMZ reports the dog is in the custody of animal control officers and, due to its continued aggressive nature, will likely be put to sleep.

The video was captured by Roger Triantafilo, the father of the boy
