Woman Attacked After Saying RM12 Nasi Lemak Is 'Too Expensive'
The customer had allegedly refused to eat and pay for the 'expensive' nasi lemak.
A woman from Johor Bahru was allegedly attacked by the stall owner for complaining that the store's nasi lemak was too expensive
The dispute occurred over the weekend on 8 October, at approximately 11am, at a hawker centre located in Skudai, Johor Bahru.
The sister of the customer, surnamed Huang (transliteration), told China Press reporters that she was visiting the hawker centre with her elder sister and three nephews when the incident occurred.
According to Huang, her sister was complaining that the price of the nasi lemak she ordered was too expensive.
The nasi lemak that the customer ordered was allegedly priced at RM12 but reports claimed that another customer had told the woman that patrons usually had to pay RM15, therefore the dish was considered 'cheap'.
However, the woman still aired her displeasure at the price and refused to eat and pay for the nasi lemak as she felt that it was 'not worth it'.
Upon hearing the customer's gripes about her food, the stall owner became angry and confronted the woman
The woman, however, allegedly doubled down on her decision to not pay for the nasi lemak, which further enraged the stall owner.
Things escalated when the owner threw the nasi lemak at the woman and her family and pushed the woman to the ground. The owner then reportedly rained blows onto the woman.
Other diners had to step in and break up the fight between the women.
Once the tussle was broken up, the owner of the stall allegedly came back to fight with the woman again, this time armed with a knife. However, her actions were quickly put to a halt by bystanders.
According to the manager of the hawker centre, the customer had allegedly attacked the stall owner as well
Reviewing the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, the owner of the store was indeed seen coming up to the customer and arguing with her, but was seen dumping the customer's nasi lemak on the ground instead.
Because of this, the customer took a bowl of hot soup that was on the table and threw it at the owner in retaliation, and the fight escalated from there.
"Both sides are at fault and they have gone to the police station to assist in investigations," the manager said.
He also confirmed that both parties will also be bearing the cost of each other's medical expenses as a form of resolution for the issue.
