Woman Dies After Being Forced By Husband To Have 4 Abortions In A Year As He Wanted A Son
She endured a lot to fulfil her husband's desire.
A woman from eastern China has died after she was made to go through four abortions in a year by her husband who wanted a son
According to a report in South China Morning Post, the woman, identified only by her first name of Yueyue, had given birth to a girl child four years ago.
However, her husband, who had wished for a son, wanted to try for a second child after China lifted its one-child policy back in 2015.
The husband made his wife go through ultrasound scans to determine the unborn baby's gender to make sure the second child is also not born a girl
After the ultrasound would reveal that the unborn child was a girl, the husband would force his wife to have an abortion. An ordeal she had to endure four times in a year.
While it is illegal in China for doctors to determine the sex of the unborn child, unlicensed medical practitioners operate illegally. Just last week, a pair of siblings were arrested in Shenzhen for operating an illegal ultrasound business out of their minivan.
However, the frequent abortions took a toll on the woman's health
She became seriously ill and needed medical attention. As her health deteriorated, the husband, instead of taking care of her, asked for a divorce.
Left with no choice, she agreed to the divorce and used the 170,000 yuan (RM10,769) from the settlement to seek treatment at a hospital in Shanghai, reported SCMP.
The woman, however, died after her condition worsened.
Her former husband did not even visit her in the hospital and is now planning to buy a new car and get married to another woman
The dead woman's family members, including her mother who was wheelchair-bound, had reportedly brought her ashes to the ex-husband's home, demanding to see him.
However, he refused to show up and was said to be hiding in a neighbour's home.
After the family had gathered outside the daughter's former husband's house, it attracted several concerned onlookers who felt aggrieved over Yueyue's situation, reported AsiaOne. Local police were called to the scene and now the case is being investigated.
