A 23-year-old saleswoman has come forward to share her relationship with a sexually and emotionally abusive ex-boyfriend whom she met in April last year

During a press conference organised by MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong last week, the woman — who wants to be identified only as May — revealed that she had met her 33-year-old former lover through an online game.

According to The Star, the couple had began a romantic relationship in May 2020 and met face-to-face for the first time in Genting Highlands in October.

It is learnt that the day after the initial meeting, the man requested money from May for the purpose of paying off his car loan.

"He persuaded me to borrow money from loan sharks in January this year," said the woman

Harian Metro reported that the man demanded the 23-year-old victim borrow up to RM8,000 from loan sharks in January this year.

"I was told to borrow RM3,000 from an ah long before all the funds were handed over to him. I was then asked to pay the debts incurred by that loan," the saleswoman explained during the press conference held at Wisma MCA in Kuala Lumpur.

She added that she was told to borrow another RM5,000 from loan sharks for him to pay off his debt.

"I was like a fool when I just followed his instructions before being asked to apply for another loan of RM200,000 from ah long," she said.

"Around 27 January this year, he started to instruct me to wake at 5.30am to exercise and forced me to record myself daily as proof," she continued

The woman disclosed that the breaking point of the relationship was when her ex-boyfriend demanded that she exercise in the nude in the early hours of the morning and record herself doing so daily

He insisted that I do the exercises naked so that he could see the progress of my weight loss.

Her family intervened in March this year in the hopes of ending the relationship, but she had already lost around RM17,000, reported The Star.

"He refused to pay back his debts and used my naked workout videos as blackmail," the woman said.

The woman recently made a police report over the incident at the Banting Police Station in Selangor.

After sharing her experience, Datuk Seri Michael Chong warned members of the public to be wary of online lovers asking for nudes

"Once they get you to sleep with them, they will ask for nude photos. Then, the blackmail starts. I have encountered many such cases," Chong lamented.

He also used this incident as a cautionary tale for youngsters, saying, "I hope her story will serve as a deterrent to other potential victims."

Asking for help is not a sign of weakness.
