"Didn't You Go To University?" — Woman Says Customers Belittle Her For Working In Retail
Her customers made fun of her five times in the past week, and it was all because of her job.
Working as a retail assistant is not easy, as the job requires a lot of physical strength and patience to deal with various types of customers
Twitter user @sofearozaidi_ recently shared how she was belittled by customers who came to shop at the store she works at.
According to the user, her customers made fun of her five times in the past week alone, and it was all because of what she does for a living.
She said some shoppers asked if she was working part-time in retail because she was awaiting her results before continuing her studies at a university.
"I told them that I am working full-time and I have finished my studies in university a long time ago and that I'm already old," she wrote.
"Most of them would reply, 'You went to university but in the end, you are working like this?'" she added.
Frustrated by the remarks, the user proceeded to ask netizens whether working in retail is such a horrible career choice
The woman also claimed that working in retail is not as bad as people make it seem, adding that retail workers get to go home without carrying back any work stress.
She went on to say that employees also get to apply for annual leave easily and her leave applications have never been rejected.
"This society is so confusing. People choose to find a halal job that doesn't concern you yet you still downgrade them," she wrote.
"If everyone wants to be a doctor, then who will entertain people like you who go into a store and can't even use your eyes to find items?" she added.
Netizens sympathised with the woman and left supportive comments
One user praised the retail worker for her hard work and told her to keep fighting.
"Ignore some of the customers who don't have manners. They think that you can't develop skills while working in retail," they wrote.
Another commented that they respect retail workers as they have to sacrifice their holidays to work.
"The Society's mindset is the one to blame. May you continue to be healthy and happy to work," they wrote.
Meanwhile, one user, who has been working in retail for over 16 years, mentioned some of the benefits of working in the industry.
"We get off days on weekdays and it's way better than resting on weekends. You don't have to queue at the cinemas, or when you go to eat and drink coffee. You also don't have to get stuck in traffic jams," they wrote.
At the time of writing, the woman's tweet has garnered over 8,400 retweets and over 1.5 million views.
